Bharat Dynamics Limited started developing weapons with AI-based tech
Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) on path of developing weapons with AI-based tech. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, chaired by MP Jual Oram visited Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) in Hyderabad on Friday.
The committee visited to study the ‘Modernization of Defence Public Sector Undertaking’. On arrival, the committee was received by Chief Managing Director of BDL Commodore Siddharth Mishra (Retd) at BDL, Kanchanbagh Unit.
The committee was apprised about the current product range, manufacturing facilities, and modernization initiatives being undertaken by BDL, informed an official release by Bharat Dynamics Limited.
During the briefing, the committee was informed that BDL is working on futuristic technologies like Artificial intelligence, industry 4.0, robotics, etc to manufacture & supply advanced weapons for the Indian Armed Forces.
The committee was also apprised about the contribution BDL is making to accomplish the ‘Atma Nirbhar’ mission of the Government & the indigenization efforts being made by BDL for the products currently being manufactured under collaboration with foreign countries.
Later, the committee visited the in-house research & development and manufacturing facilities of Akash & Medium Range Surface to Air Missile Divisions.
After the factory visit, MP & Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, Jual Oram appreciated the work being done by BDL.
CMD Siddharth Mishra (Retd) stated that BDL is committed to working towards the creation of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in the Defence sector by modernizing its facilities & training its manpower.
Further, the company is also encouraging start-ups & MSMEs to work in this direction. BDL is also entering into an agreement with several foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers to transfer the technology into India, which would contribute to the ‘Make in India’ programme of the Government.
To rapidly absorb, sustain & develop the emerging technologies, the company has strengthened its in-house research & development by recruiting engineers from premier institutions in the country & train them on a regular basis. BDL has also increased its investment in research & development facilities.
BDL has started undertaking the development of next-generation weapons systems for the Armed forces with Artificial Intelligence technologies with the active participation of start-ups. This is in view of the rapid strides being made by countries across the globe in this arena, said chairman & MD Commodore Siddharth Mishra.
The defense ministry public sector giant is also setting up new manufacturing units in its Kanchanbagh premises here such as ‘Seeker Facility Centre’, ‘Warhead Production Facility’ and ‘High-Temperature Carbon Composite manufacturing facility.
The Konkurs Missile test equipment & Konkurs Launcher test equipment have been developed in-house as an indigenous substitute to the foreign equipment imported earlier by the Indian Army to make the country ‘Atmanirbhar’ in defense, he told the visiting the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence led by Jual Oram.
The committee’s visit is to study ‘Modernisation of defense public sector undertakings’ & it was apprised about the current product range, manufacturing facilities & modernization initiatives being undertaken by the firm like the other futuristic technologies of Industry 4.0, Robotics and so on, to supply advanced weapons for the Armed forces.
Mr. Mishra explained about the indigenisation efforts being made for products currently being manufactured under collaboration with foreign countries as the MPs team visited the in-house R&D and manufacturing facilities of Akash & Medium Range Surface to Air Missile divisions. Start-ups & medium, small & micro enterprises too are being supported to work in this direction.
Indigenisation of a few components & sub-assemblies of anti-tank guided missiles & underwater weapons has been successfully completed, he said.
