World’s Lightest Satellites designed by an Indian student (Tamil Nadu) soon will be a part of the NASA mission.
Riyasdeen Samsudeen, a second-year student of Mechatronic Engineering from Karanthai (Tamilnadu), India, has designed the World’s Lightest Femto-Satellites Vision1 (V1) and Vision2 (V2). Both satellites are going to be a part of the NASA mission soon.
While designing these satellites, he used polyetherimide thermoplastic resins & 3D printing techniques, mentored by INRO labs, Chennai. The dimensions of each satellite are about 37mm & weigh 33 gm. The satellites are designed in such a way that it can record around 17 parameters with 11 sensors mounted on them. These satellites weigh less than 100 grams are completely built by using indigenous & economical components.
Vision1 (V1) is scheduled to be part of the SR-7 NASA Rocket Mission. The mission is likely to be launched from the Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia, the USA in June next year, while Vision 2 (V2) will be a part of the NASA Mission RB-6, to be launched in August 2021.
Riyasdeen took part in a competition which was conducted by NASA for students between the age of 11-18 years (had only 1,000 participants from 73 countries), as a part of this competition he designed these FEMTO Satellites.
After his massive success, now Sastra-TBI (Technology-Based Incubator in the area of IoT & 3D Printing) is going to offer him an incubation grant of Rs. 5 Lacs to pursue his ambition of establishing a successful start-up, claimed by Sastra Vice-Chancellor Mr. S. Vidhya Subramanian.
Q&A Session with Riyasdeen by Robotics India
From how long you have been working on this project.?
I spent almost two years. I’ve been working on this project for a long time & fortunately I got an opportunity in the NASA Competition that time I was in 12th grade & then my journey began.
How do you look towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.?
Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan is a golden opportunity for youths especially. They should come forward with their innovations & projects. I’m glad that these FEMTO Satellites are completely indigenous. World’s lightest satellite created by Riyasdeen Samsudeen for more updates follow robotics India
